Design Approach

Hyde Farm remained one of the last working farms in Atlanta from the early 1900s up until 2004 when the last Hyde to farm the property died. Even as suburbs surrounded the farm, J.C. Hyde continued to work the land using a hand plow pulled by his trusty mule Nell.

Signature Design developed an interpretive plan to once again bring this historic property to life for visitors. The plan identifies messages and strategies that seek to preserve and recreate the Hyde-style historical and adaptive farming practices present on the property for nearly 100 years. This includes the presentation of farming activities that engaged family, friends, and the community in an important way of life. Interpretation at the site celebrates seasonal farming events and shares the farm’s legacy through the selling of farm produce and interactive learning opportunities.
