Design Approach

Acworth, Georgia is located about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta, just minutes off of I-75 in Cobb County. The city’s historic downtown and small-town feel attract many visitors, as do opportunities for families, foodies, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Signature Design freshened up the city’s look and feel by designing a new sign system. Beginning with an inventory and analysis of existing signs, the program was as much about removing and consolidating, as it was about creating new signs. The system includes designs for main and secondary gateways, directional, street, parks, municipal buildings, parking, and historic district signs. The signage program includes monumental signage and lighting for the pedestrian bridge crossing over the train tracks from one side of the city to the other.

Alongside this work, Signature Design developed interactive exhibits for a new visitor center and park with the City of Acworth. Community members and Friends of the City of Acworth helped support the project with research and video storytelling. The new depot park offers a relaxing space with nice amenities, and the visitor center provides interactive exhibits and a touch-screen kiosk full of video stories and oral histories linked to Acworth’s past and present.
