Design Approach

Signature Design’s team developed a wayfinding and interpretive sign system for downtown Tifton, Georgia. The designs consist of six elements: gateway signs, street pole runners, historical markers, public parking signs, kiosks, and directional signs. Inspiration for the series, “Lighting up Tifton,” comes from light poles that line the streets of Tifton. A railcar and timber theme reflect the town’s origins with Captain Henry Tift, whose saw mill and rail system carried harvested timbers to his shipbuilding business in Tifton.

Tifton’s sign system won the 2010 Best Design Improvement Program Award from the Georgia Downtown Association. More than 130 municipalities in the state vied for the honor with Tifton. The award honors an initiative that visually benefits a downtown area.
