Wetland and Lakeside Observatories

The Emiquon Preserve is a 7,000 acre conservation area located on the Illinois River in Central Illinois. The preserve was established to highlight the remarkable efforts of the Nature Conservancy to restore more than 6,000 acres of wetlands and open water habitat. The purpose of the project is to welcome visitors to the Emiquon Preserve and to interpret its natural context and the story it tells about conservation.

A system of park roads, parking, trails, canoe launch, boat ramp, boardwalks connect the observatories and provide controlled access for visitors to enjoy Emiquon’s features and venues for visitor education on the environmental restoration projects underway.
