Design Approach

The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge spans the Mississippi River on the north edge of St. Louis. Originally a motor route, the bridge was used by Route 66 to cross the Mississippi River. Now closed to motor traffic, the bridge has been redeveloped into a pedestrian trail and visitor destination. The Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Signature Design created an interpretive plan for the bridge and developed one of the concepts into a Route 66-themed gas station including vintage pumps, signs, and a Model A fire truck rigged with sound triggers to honk the horn and play Route 66 jingles.
