Design Approach
Located where the Lewis & Clark Expedition departed some 200 years ago, Confluence Tower provides stunning panoramic views of the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The Tower also hosts interactive exhibits, videos, graphic panels, and maps for visitors to experience and plan their trip on the Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway—all created by Signature Design.
The entrance to exhibits includes a mosaic mural constructed out of ceramic tile and depicting the area’s iconic river bluffs. A large relief map with push-button-activated video programs provides information about special features along the byway and encourages more in-depth exploration of the region.
The Lewis & Clark Confluence Tower was awarded the 7th Annual Best Innovations Award at the Illinois Municipal League Conference in Chicago, Illinois, immediately after its opening.
